North Yorkshire and York Music Hub (NYYMH) is one of the Music Hubs established under the National Plan for Music Education. Our Hub Lead Organisation (HLO) is North Yorkshire Council (NYC), working in partnership with schools, music services, and cultural organisations across the region.
We exist to ensure every child and young person has the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, sing, and progress in music — regardless of background or circumstance. Our bursary programme is a key part of making that vision a reality.

We work with schools, local authorities, and freelance tutors to deliver high-quality music provision.
The Bursary Programme
The NYYMH Bursary Programme provides targeted financial support to remove barriers to music education. Funding can be used to subsidise instrument tuition costs for pupils who would otherwise be unable to participate.
Applications are managed through our online system, SpeedAdmin, and reviewed by the Hub team. Both schools and NYYMH Approved Tutors can apply on behalf of eligible pupils.
Eligibility
Schools can apply for pupils receiving music tuition who meet the eligibility criteria — typically those in receipt of Free School Meals or with other identified financial need.
Approved Tutors are freelance music teachers recognised by NYYMH who can apply directly on behalf of privately-taught pupils who meet the criteria.
